FBE aims to offer:
- Equal chances to all children 4-12;
- Broad development of all children;
- Minimum level of knowledge, skills and attitudes.

The philosophy of FBE is translated to school practice through specific educational views,
based on the approach of Constructivism (Vygotsky).

1. Social Learning
Children are active learners, who learn by means of interaction with their social environment.

2. Learning through Discovery
Children learn by actively exploring their environment.

3. Multiple Intelligences
Children have different ways in which they learn best.

4. Zone of Proximal Development
A child can realize its potential when the teacher/adult presents the next step in the child's progression.

5. Learning Context
Children learn best in an environment in which they feel safe and respected.

6. Scaffolding
Lesson planning takes place by determining the child's development level and then structuring activities to lead the child to higher levels of understanding.

7. Holistic Approach
Learning takes place through real-life experiences in an integrated curriculum.

8. Language of Instruction
Children should be taught in their mother tongue. The philosophy of FBE is translated in goals for the schools. The SHS staff wants to create a happy and secure environment in which the pupils can bloom socially, emotionally and spiritually and show mutual respect for each other.
