Saba offers (pre-school) education to all children from 0-18 years old.
Education on Saba is mandatory for children in the ages 6-18. Also, children who live on Saba for a few years (such as children of Med students) have to attend school. Home schooling is only allowed under very specific conditions, such as:
- A well substantiated request with reasons why the parents do not wish to have the children follow education locally;
- Name and other personalia (accreditation) of the tutor;
- Copy of degrees and references of the tutor;
- A timetable and set curriculum that the child is going to follow (books, charts, instruments, record books, testing materials, manuals);
- An indication of recess periods during the day;
- Pictures and description of the area where the children will be working, access to that particular area;
- Procedures pertaining to how the child is tested and how and by whom the results are interpreted;
- Procedures pertaining to how the child's progress is measured and promotion is arranged;
- Description of social development: how is it promoted, how is socializing with peers provided for?
Students without a diploma or job between the ages of 16 - 24, need to participate in the SVP (social formation program). This program takes approximately 2 years and prepares youngsters to further their education or find a job on the labor market.
