The innovations implicate that Sacred Heart is a school in development.

 

The management describes this process in a yearly School Development Plan. This plan consists of a description of the school, goals we want to achieve and an Action Plan in which all reforming activities are listed. 

 

Activities can address the students, the staff, the materials, the building, as well as management and organization.

By executing the activities, small steps are made towards our ideals mentioned in the Mission Statement and FBE Philosophy.

Staff development meetings take place on Wednesday afternoons.

Teachers are encouraged to work on their Personal Development Plan by keeping track of their activities in a portfolio.

In June all schools had their School Development Plan (SDP) ready and boards completed their Strategic Operational Plan (SOP).  These 2 documents give guidance to the direction of the schools.

 

Managers and board members attended 2 trainings in effective management techniques. Based on a SWOT analysis made last December, the boards formulated their plans and actions for the upcoming years. The SOPs give detailed descriptions of how the three schools on Saba are run.

 

The Laura Linzey Daycare Center, Sacred Heart School and Saba Comprehensive School each wrote an SDP in which all aspects of the schools are described and evaluated. Plans for future developments derived from the current needs.

 

The courses were organized by Jet van Heijnsbergen and executed by management consultant Pieter Sloterdijk, with her assistance. With the upcoming constitutional changes, we need to be welll prepared to guarantee the best possible education for our children. Board members, managers and commissioner have already used the plans in meetings with Dutch delegations.
