School Model
At the start of the whole innovative process, the Sacred Heart teachers and principal have designed a model of their FBE-school.

1. Mission Statement
  • The mission of the SHS is to empower each child intellectually, emotionally, socially, culturally, physically, and religiously in an environment conducive to self-motivated learning.
  • The child will develop to his/her fullest potential as a contributing member of the community.
  • Each child will be treated with dignity, respect, and appreciation of his/her individual contributions.

2. Education
  • The learning process is as important as the learning product.
  • The selection of themes is presented and based on research (methods, ICT, other materials).

3. Pedagogical Design
  • Detect and reinforce interest of children (circle talks).
  • Reinforce independent work/research from all kinds of sources.
  • Learn from mistakes.
  • Conference with parents and children together.
  • Promote moral values.
  • Enforce the Code of Conduct.

4. Didactical Design
  • Detect materials on educational/psychological values.
  • Observation and registration of individual achievement.
  • Achievement test to assess progress.
  • Extra assistance when needed during the lesson.

5. Educational Organization
  •  Group differentiation;
  • Group work;
  • Team teaching;
  • Cooperation and exchange among teachers;
  • Workshops in and outside of school;
  • External support.

6. School Organization
  • Cooperation is an important value.
  • Functions and responsibilities are divided based on expertise.
  • Leadership necessary with respect to content and education.
  • Internal Guidance is available to the teachers.

7. Service
  • There is regular contact with parents about the child's achievements and school-related activities. Information about students is readily available.
  • Parents/guardians and community assistance is appreciated.
  • School is active in the community.

This model serves as a guideline for the planned activities.

Curriculum
At SHS the teachers follow the Integrated Curriculum for FBE as well as their Program of Works. This approach allows for working in themes and projects, while being able to guarantee that all age-appropriate aspects of the 8 education areas have been taught.

The 8 educational areas are:
  1. Language & Communication
  2. Mathematics
  3. Science & Technology
  4. Social Studies
  5. Health & Physical Education
  6. Philosophy of Life
  7. Social Emotional Development
  8. Cultural & Artistic Development

Through the integrated curriculum, where connections are made between the education areas constantly, the child can develop as a whole (holistic approach).
